The origins of O3Touch

O3Touch is a product of a research and development project seeking out methods for “Remote Information Handling”.

Such methods originated in theory within this project, and then tested for verification of practical uses, which validated the principles that guided their conception.

One of these methods addressed the use of touch screen devices. The assumption, which was looked at in regards to these devices, was that a coherent and accurate user interface language was not yet established. So far, touch oriented applications in most cases, borrowed their UI model from other interfaces concepts, Internet browsers or Windows’ based, none of which offered optimum solutions and operation practices for the touch screen based device.

This assumption guided the construction of a dedicated terminology for touch screen UI devices; their practical development and testing. The outcome was a very dull UI, entirely contrary to the richly graphical interfaces that dominate the 3” touch screen of today’s devices. Yet that exact UI proved to be the superior one: intuitive, simple to use, easy to adapt to and remember its functions, and with minimal typing errors. In all, the device ended up being fully practical and efficient.

Reaching these conclusions set out the initial objective for this project, inspiring the implementation of the principles into the most common daily use of a touch screen mobile device: the phone application. The plan and aim were to see if it can make people’s life easier. Thus O3Touch was created.

The applications can be applied to any touch screen device. While the current application, due to the research parameters was applied to devices run by Windows mobile operating system, there is no limit to apply it to any operating system currently available on mobile touch devices.
